Rachel Roberts ‘The Exhibition’

My project uses the notion of the exhibition to explore and define my personal experience as a design student in the city. In essence our time as students can be viewed as an exhibition of our progress as everything we see and do is from an aesthetic viewpoint from the way we wish to be perceived by tutors our peers and society.

Following on from the debate in my dissertation (is the graphic designer leading the way into a society of chronic narcissism) the body of work would come from looking at ‘expression of self’ in a design forum-what or who makes a design student? The final product would be a book containing illustrations, documenting not only my journey through my time at Chelsea but a broader commentary on how a student is shaped through experiences with people they meet along the way. It could also branch out into re-defining the idea of the exhibition, making it a more interactive and personable experience for the viewing public, who have a big part to play in defining a designers work.An interesting start point could be the exhibition as a brand.

No great feeling for this one, I'm concerned that at best you will end up with a personal diary- been done many times before. I also feel that when your colleagues work gets under way you will feel taht your core idea is way too thin and subjective.
