I aim to challenge myself and forget about my own personal style when designing, using as many others as I can. With this I would like to reach different audiences, not just the public that share my taste and feel identified with what I produce.
The outcome will consist of different illustrations that won't look cristina at all. (To help people who don't know my work to understand this I'll have previous work showing my own personal style.) I will combine images and type and, at the end, they will take the shape of a book or a huge poster with all my antitype illustrations -you wouldn't guess I made them.
With this I want to explore my design skills and see if I'm able to forget about my style, and adapt my design skills to many different others. (The fact that is not my own personal style doesn't mean that I don't like the others, I just don't feel identified with them.)
I will try different techniques that I wouldn't normally use (like watercolour or collage) and this will show variety in my portfolio. I'll also use Fontlab and different printing options.

Its nice to see a project opposing what you like and feel safe with, challenging your skills to become neutral to your own preferences.
I feel that i really need to push up my portfolio by doing something more risky. I always follow my own style and it's reflected on my work, always very light, minimal, grey... But I still love other styles even though I don't feel identified with them (like the punk style, I love it!). So, I would still enjoy it at the same time as challenging myself.
I see great potential in the concept, as you have taken your area of interest, yet challenged yourself in a completely different way. Your style is certainly established and I think it will be very interesting to see the outcomes of this, and perhaps how unexpectedly hard it will be to set outside of what is normal for you! I know you'll make it work!

Hi Cristina! You should look at the latest issue of ComputerArts (March 07) which has a feature article on how designers should reinvent themselves. It'll provide conceptual arguments for your project and interesting examples of real designers who have an extreme range of styles.
Having mulled this project over I am more convinced that it will work for you. I am happy to approve on condition that you guarantee to include feedback from creative typographer/illustrators and attempt to publish, or professionally use a font/typeface if at all possible.

Believe me, I´ll do my best!

Go, Christina. Good on you, that you want to do something risky and 'not done before' thing. I think that when you get it going and will have the old christina's and the new christina's work, it'll be a great comparison to make. A challenge is always exciting, so you wil definetly not get bored during the 14 weeks.
