Teresa- Final Project Idea

I would like to relate my FMP to my dissertation theme, which was the physical relations within urban communities through printed matter and self publication, and how the tactility and physicality of these objects and the particular ways in which they're created and passed around are bound to bring people together in a humanized, creative, de-alienated environment. It also highlighted the importance of being physically involved with the creation of one's one "entertaining objects". I would like to base my final project around the relation of the handmade and craft with contemporary forms of communication (blogs, sms, chat-rooms, etc).
I'm not sure what the outcome would be, but i would like it to be print-based, as it seems appropriate to explore the tactile qualities of paper for this subject, and also because it is compatible with the direction i would like to take in my portfolio of work.

Your project lacks focus...although your opening claim sounds worthy (yet not clear to understand) you have no real idea of what journey to undertake or what teh outcomes might be, ie: research heavy!
There are also several other more successful projects dealing with anlalogue outcomes: craft, print, texture etc...so I am closing the book on this area.
You need to read the blog in depth, review the range of approved projects and find something new. I am also judging the sucess of proposals based on comments and enthusiasm from your peers.

hi teresa,
how can you pass something tactile across the internet (unless it is photographed - in which case it loses its value)? i did think however of somethigng i saw in brixton on atlantic road: a 'wallzine', i.e. a public wall area on which was pasted a large format magazine spread and which changed every month - usually a black and white collage with text on brown paper (and very beautiful). i think this may be a method which makes possible your idea and which is area specific. just a thought, all the best olly

hey Olly,
thanks so much for your comment. I visited the the wallzine's website and i thought it was such a great idea. The public space where it is displayed really relates to the social interaction and participatory cultural production i mentioned in the post. thank you for letting me know about it, really enjoyed it,
