David Roberts FMP Idea

I have a really strong fascination with the idea of being a 'Renaissance Man'. I wrote my dissertation on the subject of whether Digital technology could bring back the Renaissance Ideal in which people were expected to become well-rounded individuals and were expected to have a skills base in Art, Music, literature, science & maths and many more areas of expertise. I would like to somehow build a project through somehow actually becoming a well-rounded individual in the short time of the project. Maybe a diary of having to learn a new subject a day and then taking a 'Renaissance Man' test at the end. Maybe Frank could set the subjects and the test.

I know the idea of doing something new every day is very similiar to Melissa's idea so I'd really appreciate any better suggestions. thanks.

there's an awesome book around with a background knowledge in everything for 'boys' - medieval geography to rules of football to science.

check it out: Dangerous Book for Boys

Maybe you could make it about being a modern day rennaisance man-the kind of broad knowledge you need to have to be successful in modern day London?

i think thats his point - in modern society you dont need any such knowledge?

yeah i was just thinking about the earlier idea of faking intelligence-maybe combining it with this one as the two seem to fit together.

You're a very helpfull bunch, I'm very grateful. I was just wondering what would you consider the criteria for being a well-rounded individual in this age? It's not something I was originaly going for but it might lead to something.

Thanks,
David.

well i think in todays society you are expected to have fulfilled certain criteria at certain ages-generally speaking-for example taking your driving test by a certain age-having a "proper job" by your mid twenties, relatively mundane things on the face of it but you could put a spin on it somehow?

i do kinda like the idea of you learning bizarely difficult knowledge from different areas in a short space of time tho

hmm i think it should be more of a guide than a project about you actually being a renassance man. that way it would appear more professional, but still comunicating an intriguing idea
